The beautiful cobblestone streets of Antigua Guatemala are lined with amazing, boutique shops and cute cafes. Surprisingly, there are a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. You won’t be starved for choice. But how do you choose? Check this list!

Vegan Antigua Guatemala Restaurants

If you’re looking for restaurants/cafes that are vegan only, there are a few to choose from. These have vegan only menus so you can feel good knowing that there’s been no mix up with non-vegan practices.

La Bruja

  • Style: Vegan Burgers
  • Price: $
  • Menu Items To Try: Tempeh Burger
  • Location: 4 ta calle Oriente dentro del CC La Fuente, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

Tucked inside a beautiful courtyard with a couple of other restaurants, La Bruja is focused on one thing: making burgers. And, they’re damn good too. Probably one of the best you’ll find.

While they do have one non-vegan optional side on the menu (you can get cheese on request), the rest is vegan. These build-your-own burgers are seriously fantastic. Piled high with all of the fresh toppings you could hope for and served in a cute little wooden box. With 6 different types of vegetarian patties to choose from and hand-cut fries, this burger joint should be on everyone’s checklist.

Once: Once

  • Style: Mexican, Italian, Asian Fusion
  • Price: $
  • Menu Items To Try: Rice paper rolls, Vegan cakes
  • Location: 6a Calle Poniente #29, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

This might be the best vegan Antigua Guatemala restaurant if you like a variety of vegan options made in-house with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff (oh and vegan deserts). Yes, that was a mouthful to read. But, you’ll be glad once you get some of their actual food on your plate. The spot is only small with 5 tables and has great, friendly staff that speak English.

While a menu with a wide variety of cuisine types can sometimes be a put-off, this restaurant does everything in small batch which keeps it fresh. The owner makes a 3 option variety each day. On top of the great food, they have a blended tea selection that will keep you wanting more.

Beat

  • Style: American, Mediterranean, Mexican, Latin, Juice Bar, Gluten-free
  • Price: $$
  • Menu Items To Try: Carrot Cake and the “meat” balls
  • Location: 5a Avenida Sur #34A, Antigua Guatemala 03001, Guatemala

Looking for vegan food and like to dance? This cute spot is also a combination of fitness studio (upstairs) and vegan cafe. It offers (on occasion) a free dance session for customers as well as a seating area made of wood with lots of hanging plants and a vertical plant wall. With a few interesting items on the menu like cardamom American coffee and falafel wraps it’s a great place to go for a meal or a quick bite.

Wachuma

  • Style: Asian fusion, Bowls
  • Price: $
  • Menu Items To Try: Bowls, Kombucha, Curry Noodles
  • Location: 5a Avenida Norte # 9, Antigua 03001 Guatemala

This is one of Antigua Guatemala restaurants based right in the center of town. So it’s easy to get to. Apart from great food, the eye-catching, colourful wall design is sure to allure you in.

This place is certainly creative and thorough when it comes to their vegan menu. With a supply of homemade Kombucha, nut cheese, sauerkraut and tempeh (to name a few), the clean eating restaurant is a must-do for vegans on the lookout for something delicious. They also do a selection of sweets, even with vegan cheesecake!

If you’re looking for Antigua Guatemala restaurants with something special, this is the place.

Vegetarian Antigua Guatemala Restaurants

If you rather vegetarian style food, there are plenty of great restaurants for you to choose from in this beautiful town. The following are a few of our favorites.

Samsara

  • Style: Vegetarian of various styles, Vegan options, Gluten-free
  • Price: $$
  • Menu Items To Try: Potato Soup, Mixed vegetarian platter (great selection of dipping sauces and deep-fried balls!)
  • Location: 7a Avenida Sur 03001, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

A great spot for those looking for a great mix of vegetarian food. Samsara has a large menu to satisfy all those in search of something veg, but not really sure what. Some spacey wall paintings in the bathroom and interesting eco/art-related videos on the tv screen give this place a holistic vibe without being too in your face.

With friendly staff, a complimentary soup of the day shot with your order, and a selection of locally made, organic beers in the fridge, this place is a solid choice for those looking for green eats. They also have a small collection of zero waste toothpaste (in glass jars) and bamboo toothbrushes on sale so you can say no to plastic in style while you travel.

Cafe Stela

  • Style: Cafe, Breakfast
  • Price: $$
  • Menu Items To Try: Green Smoothie, Green Eggs on toast
  • Location: 3a Calle Oriente 43, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

Probably one of the most “instagrammable” Antigua Guatemala restaurants. This place has the most amazing, open-air courtyard with lush gardens and beautiful wall art.

With colourful, hand-embroidered placemats and a sunny, green space, you’re sure to feel the good vibes. It’s a breakfast/lunch spot that makes great coffee and green eggs, but the best things on the menu might even be the smoothies. They’ve really perfected them (even the fresh bee pollen and coconut topping). Be sure to check out the Stella 9, a sustainable fashion store (attached to the cafe) with a great selection of ethically sourced, locally made clothing in a range of chic styles.

Caoba Farms

  • Style: Farm to table
  • Price: $$
  • Menu Items To Try: Vege burger, Sunday live music/farmers market
  • Locality: 5 Avenida Sur Final, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

This is a must-do for anyone interested in all things green. The real working veggie farm is situated just on the outskirts of Antigua Guatemala town. You can walk here from Central Park (Plaza Mayor) in around 10 to 15 minutes. Follow 5 Avenida Sur from the Central Park through a beautiful, tree-lined cobblestone street to the funky farm.

Caoba farm is a kind of institution for health. Not only do they grow all their own produce, they have a small health food shop (that also sells a lot of great zero waste products), there are yoga classes, cooking classes, and a farmers market.

If you’re in town on a Sunday, the farmers market is the place to be. Live music and local beers on tap make this one of the most happening spots around.

Amancer Juice Bar

  • Style: Juice Bar
  • Price: $
  • Menu Items To Try: Ginger Shots
  • Locality: No.8, 6 Avenida Sur 8, Antigua Guatemala 03001, Guatemala

This colourful cafe is one of the Antigua Guatemala restaurants that does juice well. Really well.

The tiny venue has only a couple of small tables, though it’s free wifi and colourful walls make it a great place to hang out. Be sure to try the ginger shots. It’s pure ginger juiced. A great way to get an immune boost on your travels. Don’t forget to bring your own straw or takeaway cup if you’re grabbing a juice for your walk so you can reduce waste while you travel.

San Martin

  • Style: Bakery
  • Price: $
  • Menu Items To Try: Croissants
  • Locality: 6a Calle Poniente #5, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

A well-established bakery is hard to beat. And San Martin does make a great selection of fresh baked goods. With a nice open courtyard and a rooftop covered in vines, it is a great place to stop for a snack or grab a bread roll for later. Be sure to bring your alternatives to plastic bags if you’re getting takeaway.

Saberico

  • Style: Vegetarian and non-veg options
  • Price: $$$
  • Menu Items To Try: Great selection of lunch paninis
  • Locality: 6a Avenida Sur #7, Antigua Guatemala 03001, Guatemala

This place feels like a few different restaurants in one. On the street side, there is a cafe serving sweets and small takeaway items behind a glass counter. Step in a little further and there is a chocolate store and some fresh produce. Further again and there is a bar inside an open courtyard. Keep on going and the back of the restaurant opens up into a series of garden seating areas.

While the menu is not strictly vegetarian only, they do have quite a lot of variety and good options to choose from. This is a great place to sit outside amongst the old brick walls and thick green garden/jungle.

Rainbow Cafe

  • Style: Variety of veg options, Gluten-free
  • Price: $$
  • Menu Items To Try: Hummus platter
  • Locality: 7a Avenida Sur, Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala

One of the longest running cafes in the town, this place attracts an interesting mix of locals and foreigners for various music events and NGO talks. It has its own, small, library and a nice little bar.

The food is pretty good and there is certainly a variety. This place is great for grabbing something light and easy (like a hummus platter and a beer) and watching some live music. There’s even an open mic night for those looking to get on stage.

Acai Antigua

  • Style: Smoothies, Bowls
  • Price: $$
  • Menu Items To Try: Buddha Bowl
  • Locality: Calle Poniente #3 a un Costado de La Merced 1, Antigua, 03001, Guatemala

A very cute and well laid out little, health cafe. Looking for a colourful interior with great smoothies, bowls, and friendly staff that speak good English. This is the place for you.

Toko Baru

  • Style: Falafels
  • Price: $
  • Menu Items To Try: Falafel Pocket
  • Locality: 1 17″A”, 03001, 1a Avenida Sur, Antigua Guatemala 03001, Guatemala

Seriously great falafel pita. The little hole in the wall does meat dishes, specifically curries with an Indonesian influence, however, they do make a great falafel for those in the mood for a great cheap eat.

Open for lunch and dinner, this low key place has cold beer and good service. It’s a great go-to for reliable meals. You can get the falafels in a pita (recommended), as a salad, or with rice.

Antigua Guatemala Restaurants. A wide selection.

There’s a huge selection of choice in Antigua Guatemala. In fact, there are so many good options it might even be slightly overwhelming (if you only have a finite amount of time in town). Top Antigua Guatemala restaurants include:

  • Casa Santo Domingo
  • Fridas (under the Santa Catalina arch)

What about street food?

We love to eat street food when we eco travel. It’s one of the best ways to see the real side of town and meet some interesting locals.

Street food in Antigua is more like snacks rather than a significant kind of meal. For vegan/vegetarian options, there are some small vendors selling fruit and nuts. It’s not easy to find fruit vendors selling fruit that hasn’t already been cut and wrapped in plastic or in plastic bags. But, there are a couple of guys selling nuts by weight, so if you have your own reusable container, these are a great option (however, quite pricey).

Our favourite?

Based on the above information (restaurant reviews) there are a few favorites in this Central American town. But, if you’re vegan or vegetarian and only have one day in town, The Caoba Farm is a must-do (as long as it’s not Monday/Tuesday when they’re closed). It has a great variety of fresh, locally made Guatemala food, a health food shop on site, great staff and some local beers on tap.
