What are Pinterest group boards?
Essentially, Pinterest group boards are a board that multiple people can join and contribute to. You can tell if a board is a group board as it will have numerous collaborators in the board icon, and it will usually say ‘group board’ or ‘collaborative board’ in the name.
Why join Pinterest Group boards?
Pinterest group boards are great for traffic as your content is going to reach a wider audience than just your followers. You will also reach the followers of the other group board contributors, therefore providing a greater chance that your content will be liked and re-pinned.
The more re-pins you have, the more likely you will have click throughs to your website! We get 54% of our blog traffic from Pinterest alone!
There is also a lot of great ideas on there to learn from and share. Everything from save water slogans, to eco resorts, and reducing your carbon footprint.
Is there a limit to group boards?
Really, the more group boards you join, the better, but you do want to have appropriate ones for your niche as then you have a better chance of getting ‘repinned’. To help with the Pinterest algorithm, you do want to share your pins gradually throughout the day which is easy when you use the Tailwind App.
How to Join a Pinterest group board
Each owner is different with group board invitations. In the group board information/rules section, they will usually state how to join the board. Often they will request you send them a message on Pinterest asking to join, or to contact them by email. Sometimes there will be an option “Request to Join” (but not many boards have this).
To find the owner of the group board, you can click on the web browser and look for the name before the group board title.
For example:
Contacting the group board owner
When asking to join a group board, you can usually write a brief message introducing yourself and your content:
Message example:
Hi (Name) ,
Could we please join your (Pinterest Group board name). We are (niche) bloggers and would love to contribute to it! Our Pinterest is www.pinterest.com/(pinterest name) or the associated email is (email address). You are welcome to check out our website (website URL) if you would like more of an idea of what we may post.
Thank you!

How to organise your Sustainable & Eco group boards
This is where Tailwind comes in. If you haven’t heard of it before then make sure you read about it now!
Tailwind is great because:
- You can categorize your Pinterest group boards into ‘board lists’. For example, have all your eco travel & sustainable travel group boards together; sustainable living group boards together; general travel group boards together, and so on. Then you can schedule your pins to go out to the different group boards at intervals (e.g. every 24 hours). The Pinterest algorithm seems to favor consistent and steady pinning, rather than sporadic bursts.
- Tribes. These are essentially engagement groups for Pinterest. On the free trial of Tailwind you can join 5 tribes for free and can share 30 pins in the month. Each tribe has a different niche and rules, but it is generally a certain category (e.g Travel, Sustainable Fashion, Frugal living etc), and has rules to follow e.g. you will need to share 1:1 (for every pin you add, you need to share someone else’s pin) or 2:1 (for every pin you add, you need to share two other pins).

Hi guys, thanks so much for the tips, the post is super helpful! One question I’m kind of stuck on how to actually join the group boards. The list is amazing but I’m not sure how to contact the creators or ask to join.
Thanks for your help and amazing advice.
Savnnah
Hi Savannah! Usually, you just message the owner of the group board on Pinterest and ask to join. To find the owner of the group board, click on the URL in your browser, and take out the group board part of the URL e.g. https://www.pinterest.com/thedharmatrails/eco-travel-group-board/ ->
https://www.pinterest.com/thedharmatrails/ and that should take you to the owner’s profile. Then you can use the messenger in Pinterest to contact them!
Such an informative post – thanks so much for sharing!
I’ve already asked to join a couple of the sustainable lifestyle boards, so hopefully they accept!
Oh nice! They’re great places to share and meet amazing people doing sustainable things!
That’s so helpful for me as a newbie blogger. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for your commnet! Glad it was useful!
