How many beaches are in Grenada?
Grenada is both breathtakingly beautiful and blissfully off-the-beaten-path. It’s a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Caribbean West Indies, with beautiful beaches, rainforest waterfalls, and friendly locals, offering an unforgettable Caribbean experience.
The whole coastline of Grenada is dotted with beautiful beaches to explore. Boasting over 45 beaches, there are plenty to choose from.
Are Beaches in Grenada Public?
Yes, Grenada Beaches are public. So you can access them all, except for the beach at Calavigny Island (as the island is privately owned). When exploring Grenada, as long as you’re not entering the beach through or on a private property you are free to sit on a beach in front of a hotel or residence under a tree and enjoy the views.
This travel guide highlights the 5 best beaches in Grenada:
1. Grand Anse Beach
This is the obvious choice when thinking of the best beaches in Grenada. When you picture a beautiful Caribbean beach with white sand, palm trees and easy going beach bars, you’ll get it at Grand Anse Beach.
Voted The World’s Best Beach by Conde Nast Traveller in 2019, this long strip of white sand is home to some of Grenada’s best hotels and beach bars. While the “main” beach and tourist hotspot, the beach is big enough and long enough that you can still have sections to yourself.
Where is Grand Anse Beach located
Grand Anse Beach is approximately 6.5km from the Cruise terminal. You can either get a taxi to the beach (usually lined up and waiting), or you can catch the public bus to Grand Anse. The public bus costs $2.50 EC and can be caught from the bus terminal that is located a block from the Cruise Terminal.
This is the one of the most popular and best beaches in Grenada. It is in the parish of St. George’s and is the hub of Grenada’s beach life.
The Grand Anse Beach Experience
Grand Anse is one of the best beaches in Grenada, and its the perfect place to lay under a palm tree in a deckchair, snorkel or try water sport activities, hang out in a beach bar or just watch the world go by.
Safety: There are lifeguards in the middle of Grand Anse Beach who patrol the area. It is the only one of the beaches in Grenada with lifeguards.
While there are a few vendors selling fruit and handicrafts, they are very sparing and friendly. If you’re not interested, they will keep walking. The Grenada Police occasionally walk the beach and are very friendly.
Dogs: Dogs must be on a lead at Grand Anse. Fines are enforced.
Restaurants : With many restaurants and hotels lined along the beachfront, there are plenty of great places to eat on Grand Anse.
- Umbrellas is a popular local spot with pub-style food (burgers, wings, etc), vegetarian/vegan options, at decent prices.
- Esther’s Bar is one of the best beach bars in Grenada, and the spot to go for a Mojito. It is in a seating area just off the beach but you can go in barefoot.
- 61 West is a little more upscale but still has a sandy floor. They do some great cocktails and have some great beachfront umbrellas you can sit under.
- Beachside Bistro is a new spot on the stretch, great for a bite and a sunset drink. It’s right on the sand, so offers that real beachside restaurant experience.
- Grenadian Grill is an upmarket restaurant at the luxe Silversands Resort. Be prepared for high prices, however there are some delicious items on the menu, and the service and atmosphere is always great.

2. Magazine Beach
Magazine Beach is one of the best beaches in Grenada. As the name suggests, it really is picture perfect. Palm trees, white sand and a rocky outcrop at both ends. In the middle of the beach (in front of the Royalton Hotel) is a shallow, rocky reef that acts as a wave barrier and creates a small sheltered pool inside. There is some nice snorkeling off this area too.
Where is Magazine Beach located?
Magazine beach is one of the closest beaches to the airport, and easily accessible by car (or you could even walk straight from the airport itself).
Magazine Beach Experience
There is a large public parking area at the entrance to the beach – drive down the steep hill and you will reach it. This beach is a popular hangout spot on the weekends as it is shaded and flat, perfect for beach barbecues ‘limes’.
Towards the western side of the beach is the Aquarium Restaurant/Bar and to the eastern side is the Royalton Hotel. The middle of the beach is a rather steep slope to the water but is very gentle once in the water. Occasionally, the small wooden “Shack” bar is open and offers a great local hangout.
Safety: No lifeguards on this beach so be aware of the shallow rock area when jumping into the water.
Restaurants: Aquarium does a BBQ lunch on Sunday afternoons that attracts a good crowd with live music
3. La Sagesse Beach
La Sagesse Beach feels like a hidden gem. It is tucked away into a tropical, green cove and has a very remote feel. While the sand is not clear white, like the western beaches, it is soft and offers some great palm tree shade out the front of the La Sagesse Restaurant.
A small river entrance cuts through the beach and moves frequently, though you can typically walk through it as it is only ankle deep. It’s a nice beach to walk to the point (which is now being developed into a hotel).
Where is La Sagesse Beach Grenada located?
On the south east coast of Grenada, La Sagesse Beach can be accessed easiest with a car. However you can walk around 600m/0.4 miles down the beach access road from the main road if you are taking public transport.
The La Sagesse Experinece
This is one of the best beaches in Grenada if you want to climb and hang off a palm tree! It’s a quiet beach, that has a small, local crowd on the weekend. The best place to set up is under the palm trees directly in front of the La Sagesse Hotel. You can buy drinks from this hotel and rent their kayaks and deck chairs.
The water here is not crystal clear like the western beaches as small waves pick up the fine sand that comes down from the river. Note that after a big storm there can be a lot of debris in the water/on the beach. However, the hotel cleans the area in front of the hotel.
Safety: There are no lifeguards on the beach, though conditions are relatively calm.
Restaurant: The hotel has a restaurant that serves some local and international options (at hotel prices).
4. Morne Rouge Beach (BBC Beach)
The smaller, quieter neighbor of Grand Anse Beach, and again, one of the best beaches in Grenada. For those who want the beautiful, white sand and clear waters of Grand Anse but don’t want the crowds, head to BBC. It is a short car ride around the corner and offers some of the nicest swimming waters in Grenada.
There are a few, small beach side/cliffside restaurants and bars which offer a relaxed vibe and some great food.
Where is Morne Rouge (BBC) beach located?
A short drive from Grand Anse Beach or a solid walk up the hill beyond Mt Cinnamon hotel on the southern end of Granda Anse. BBC is also the gateway to the amazing La Luna Hotel.
The BBC Beach Experience
The beautiful bay is surrounded by cliffs and has some of the nicest, calm water in Grenada to float around in. It is a relatively shallow bay so you can comfortably swim quite far out and check out the various bar hangouts.
It is a great place to spend the day with friends, have a few drinks and watch the sunset.
Safety: It is a very safe beach to swim, with hardly any water moment and a gentle slope. Though there are no lifeguards.
Dogs: dogs are allowed on the beach but must be on leashes.
Restaurants: there are a few great spots to hangout at BBC
- La Plywood is a great, local favorite. The small, colorful, wooden deck has a few seating spots that look down to the beach. It’s a very relaxed feel and they do a good fish taco and stock the locally made Blue Light Caribbean Gin.
- Brisa Mar is a short 2-minute walk up to the cliffside and offers an amazing view back down across the BBC beach. It is slightly more upscale than La Plywood though it is also a great vibe for some afternoon cocktails.
- Sur La Mer has some great, local food options, especially the Rotis.
- Beach Xscape is a nice relaxed beach bar, and a great spot to have some Vibe Hard Seltzers.
5. Sauteurs Beach
At the very northern end of Grenada is the town of Sauteurs and just up from Sauteurs is an amazing, local hangout. There is a section of road that follows the coastline between palm trees and looks out the islands north of Grenada. You can swing from a palm tree and kick back in the very friendly “De Bamboo Bar”
Where is Sauteurs Beach?
Located at the northern end of Grenada, Sauteurs beach is along the main road and is accessible by car or public transport.
The Sauteurs Beach Experience
One of the best beaches in Grenada for if you want to truly feel relaxed and away from the tourist scene. The views out to the northern islands make this a special place to take in the views. You’ll meet friendly locals fishing off the beach and have a great, relaxed time under the palms.
Safety: there are a few rocky outcrops in the water by the headland so be aware.
Restaurant: De real Bamboo bar also cooks up some great local dishes with daily specials.
Best Beaches in Grenada – are there more?
There are plenty of other beaches scattered around the coastline of Grenada to visit. Here are some more of the best beaches in Grenada to check out on your vacation:
- Bathway Beach – this is also one of the best beaches in Grenada located on the North East of the island. In the water here there is a long rock shelf that parallels the shore, creating a calm ‘pool’ area for swimming. Just across the road there are a range of takeaway food and drink stalls.
- Sandy island (Grenada) – you’ll need to organise a boat and make sure the water isn’t too rough, but this beach is truly stunning.
- La Luna beach – the beach right infront of La Luna is a stunning spot for sunset.
- Grooms beach – One of the local hidden gems is Grooms beach. You’ll often have this beach all to yourself!
- Levera beach – Situated in the National Park, this beach has spectacular views out to Sugar Loaf island, and is also where the leatherback turtles come in to lay their eggs.
- La Phare Bleu – In front of the resort, is a small black sand beach overlooking the marina.
- Pink Gin beach – Although this beach is mainly accessible to people staying at Sandals Resort in Grenada, there is a secret path to this beach. You may need someone local to point it out, but you can drive just part Aquarium Restaurant and there is a short bush trail you can follow down to the beach.
There are also some amazing beaches in Carriacou:
- Paradise Beach (situated on the Island of Carriacou Grenada)
- Sandy Island beach – technically this is one of the best beaches in Grenada (as it is part of the tri-island state of Grenada), however in this post we are just looking at the island of Grenada.
- White Island Beach
- Anse La Roche
If you want to explore more of the island, there are plenty of unique things to do in Grenada. There are great diving reefs, chocolate factories, and beautiful waterfalls in Grenada to hike to. Whether you want to join a tour or do it yourself, there are numerous opportunities.

Not only do they have solar-powered Cocoa Pod rooms, numerous community initiatives, and a low-carbon footprint, but the resort is also styled with an Instagram-able flare.
Mt Cinnamon Hotel has an old Spanish style feel with whitewashed walls and terracotta, tiled roofs. It sits on a lush, green hill overlooking Grand Anse beach and has a great beachside restaurant called Savvys. Mt Cinnamon is also home to Dive Grenada, which offers a high-quality dive experience for beginners and experienced divers. They are also Green Globe Certified, with a Sustainability Management Plan.
