The 5 Best Grenada Waterfalls (With Local Tips)

Grenada is a Caribbean gem, filled with lush green hills and some of the region’s best waterfalls. Whether you’re looking for an easy access waterfall or an adventure experience, these Grenada Waterfalls certainly have you covered.

In many cases, though, they are not easy to find (or work out how to get there from the maps). This guide describes the 5 best Grenada waterfalls with easy to follow instructions and suggestions to make the most of your experience.

1. Royal Mount Carmel Falls

The Royal Mount Carmel falls is one of our favorite waterfalls in the world, rivaling the Blue Hole Jamaica, Iguazu falls in South America, and Purling Brook Falls in Australia. It is a great Grenada waterfall for those looking at spending the day in a user-friendly, jungle setting.

The Mount Carmel Falls is a large dropping waterfall (approx. 30m [100ft]) over a straight edge. However, the area around the waterfall is also an attraction in itself. Manicured grounds in the middle of the jungle with seating areas and plenty of shade, the Mount Carmel Falls leads into a series of shallow, swimming pools and rock slides.

Where is Royal Mount Carmel Falls located?

Situated in the parish of St Andrew, this Grenada Waterfall is easily accessible from St George (approx. 1 hour drive). It is approx. 30 minutes from Belmont Estate, one of Grenada’s chocolate factories.

How to access the waterfall

Transportation

Like all Grenada waterfalls, it is easier to have your own car, but you can also get here by the local bus.

• Follow the Eastern Main Road to the google pin location
• There are usually a group of guys hanging out at the corner bar and will wave you down to park (they’re super friendly)
• You can park just on the side of the road opposite the corner bar (where the guys will show you)

Entrance Fee

• There is an entrance fee of 2.50 EC per person
• This you pay to the security guard (next to the bar)
• The money goes to the local families that back on to the waterfall as they maintain pathways and the areas around the falls
• A “tour” is provided for those that wish, for 10EC per person. However, the path to the falls is very well maintained and is easy to get to (so you don’t really need a guide)

The Mount Carmel Waterfall Experience & Tips

• It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the entrance point to the main waterfall along a well maintained dirt track with stairs
• A small open air shack at the base of the falls provides a good place to sit, store your gear and get changed (if needed)
• You can climb up the rocks to go under the falls – beware, the rocks are very slippery and in some cases can move in their place
• Head away from the base of the main waterfall to the smaller rock slides for a great family hangout spot
• The area is generally pretty quiet and if you go through the week you can have the whole area to yourself.

Adventurous Tip

• There is a small path to the righthand side of the base of the falls (not signed)
• It leads straight up the thick jungle hill to the top of the falls, and hear you can follow the stream along to find more waterfalls
• Note that you will have to scale the slippery hill, climb part of a tree and then walk along slippery rock surface at the top of the falls with a sheer drop to the bottom

2. Seven Sisters Waterfall

The most iconic of all Grenada Waterfalls. Seven Sisters waterfalls are situated high up in the Grand Etang National Park.

The beautiful double cascading waterfall provides some amazing photo opportunities, while the deep pool at the base surrounded by thick jungle is a unique and memorable swimming experience. It’s called Seven Sisters as there are meant to be seven falls. However, the actual number of falls has been debated and people now think there are only 5. For most people seeing the two main ones is enough.

Where is Seven Sisters Falls located?

Situated in the parish of Saint Andrew, approximately a 30 minute drive from St George’s.

How to access the waterfall

Transportation

Again, it is easier to have your own car, however you can get here by the local bus.

• Follow the Grand Etang Road to the google pin location
• A recreational centre is situated at the entrance
• Normally someone will flag you down

Entrance Fee

• There is an entrance fee of 5 EC per person
• They give you a walking stick (an actual stick) if you want to use one
• It’s best to drive from here down to the actual furthest point you can (another 5 minute drive) to save the additional walking
• You will go past a bamboo bar and a small garden

The Seven Sister Waterfall Experience & Tips

• You will walk around 25 minutes from the car park (closest to falls) to the main waterfall along a well maintained dirt track with stairs
• The stair climb down is steep and can be slippery so be careful
• Pass the tree climbing area and keep going across a small creek (there’s only one way to go)
• You will see the double waterfall in all its glory
• The swimming hole at the base on the larger falls is perfect for swimming

Adventurous Tip

• You can jump off the higher waterfall, however, it is quite dangerous (approx. 12m high and very slippery access with a sheer drop to rocks below)
• If you are thinking that you’d like to jump it’s best to hire the guide at the entrance
• You can follow the path to the right hand side (just after you pass over the little stream on seeing the double waterfall)
• This will take you up (near vertical vine climb) to the other falls – which are much smaller
• Be careful as this climb is very steep and slippery also

3. Concord Waterfall

This Grenada waterfall is actually three completely separate falls.

The first is a large cascade right by the road where you can literally see the waterfall from your window. The second is approx. a thirty minute hike into the jungle (crossing streams) to get to a remote almost enclosed green hole in the forest. The third is another thirty minute walk deeper into the jungle.

Where is Concord Waterfall located?

Situated in the parish of St John, approximately a 30 minute drive from St Georges.

How to access the waterfall

Transportation

You can only really get to the waterfall by your own transport. The turn off from the main road in approx. a 30 minute walk up the mountain road if you are taking public bus.

For driving

• Follow the Western Main Road
• There is a turnoff right before the Concord Waterfall road, be sure to wait until you see the sign for Concord Falls before turning

Entrance Fee

• There is no entrance fee
• Note that to get to the first waterfall you can simply park your car and view out the window, however to get to the second and third, you will likely need some direction to find the path (for this there is a security guard that can direct you – tip if you like)

The Concord Waterfall Experience & Tips

• The first waterfall is nice with a solid drop but is not really swimming friendly
• There is a small shop selling food and drinks by this one, however not that they keep monkeys in small cages so it’s best not to support this kind of behaviour
• At the end of the carpark (above the first waterfall) is a small path leading into the long grass. This is the way to the second waterfall.
• Note that the walk is long and not well marked so you have to remember the exact instructions from the security guard (which sound a little like “follow the path, cross the stream twice, turn left, cross the path three times, turn right, cross the stream again and go left”.
• It is well worth the walk to the second fall if you have the time and you can defiantly swim at the second fall
• To get to the third fall you will require around an hour hiking each way so be sure to allow enough time for daylight (if going in the afternoon)

4. Annadale Falls

One of the most popular of the Grenada waterfalls because of its easy access. You can drive to the entrance of the falls and walk down a concrete sloped footpath to the waterfall.

With a few small stalls selling trinkets and drinks, it is the most “setup” waterfall for tourists. It is also the closest to town.

Where is Annadale Falls located?

Situated in the St Georges parish, approximately a 20 minute drive from town, this waterfall is easily accessible.

How to access the waterfall

Transportation

• You can drive right to the waterfall in your own car.
• The turn off from the main road in approx. a 15 minute walk from the mountain road if you are taking public bus.

For driving

• Watch out for the very distinct split in the road when heading towards the falls at Constantine
• Veer left and down to get to the falls

Entrance Fee

• There is a 5EC entrance fee
• You can easily walk down the concrete path to the falls where there is a seating area perfect for viewing the falls themselves

The Annandale Waterfall Experience & Tips

• The water is not quite as clear as some of the other more remote waterfalls
• A local guy jumps off the cliff into the water (so it’s deep) but he asks for money to do so (he’s there most of the day)
• There are garbage bins and a couple of people who work there that will ask you to leave once it gets to 5:00PM
• It is a great spot to check out if you’re doing a quick island tour and don’t have time to explore deep into the jungle but want to go to a waterfall
• Some of the stalls have some interesting hand made jewellery

5. Golden Falls

This waterfall is a recently discovered hidden gem, with very few people knowing how to get there. They’re called the Golden Falls because of the orange coloured minerals that fall down the waterfalls rocks.

This is a full day hike experience for those in physically good shape. There are some parts where you need to abseil up and down sheer rock face. Need to go with an experienced local. It’s a full day hike, with certain parts abseiling up the rock face.

Where is Golden Falls located?

Situated in the area of Mt Horne in St Andrews Parish approx. 1 hour from St Georges.

How to access the waterfall

Transportation

Delon Charles, owner of real Grenada taxi and tours (ph: 473 418-1921 / 473 403-9130) is the go-to guy to help you explore the golden falls. You can arrange for a pick-up or to meet in a location closer to the falls.

Entrance Fee

• There is no entrance fee
• However, you will need to pay for the full day tour (approx. 100EC per person)

The Golden Falls Waterfall Experience & Tips

• The Golden Falls trip is a full day hike with some rock climbing involved
• While the waterfall is unique (orange rocks) it is not one of the biggest/tallest
• It is however, the most remote and therefore the most adventurous experience

Exploring Grenada Waterfalls Is A Must When On The Island

The Grenada waterfalls are still very much untouched compared to other Caribbean islands. This makes them all very unique in their own ways.

While most are not easily accessible by public transport, you can get to them if you don’t mind walking. The locals in Grenada are generally very friendly and if you are walking towards a waterfall don’t be afraid to ask for a ride.

Eco travel is all about reducing your environmental impact while trying to improve the place and experience of a destination. Here are a couple of simple ideas to be a more responsible traveller while visiting the Grenada waterfalls:

• Use natural insect repellents, such as essential oils (we love bay oil!) it’s better for your skin and the environment. OMI is a local brand selling natural products.
• Wear reef-safe sunscreen to prevent harm to the Caribbean reefs and sealife.
• Make sure you bring your trash with you as you are immersed in nature! Only Annandale and Concorde have rubbish bins. A good way is to have your own reusable bags.
• Bring your own reusable water bottle (many places have nothing for sale) but some have single use plastic bottles! Let’s avoid trash and see Grenada beautiful.
