Useful Information for Joshua Tree Airbnbs

There are a range of styles and prices for the above-mentioned Joshua Tree rentals. They all have unique points of interest and amenities, however, there are a few things to be mindful of regarding bookings in the desert.

The summer is hot. Some places have limited air-conditioning

Many of the “off grid” style Joshua Tree Airbnbs are attractive for unique and sustainable incentives. This means that they run on solar power and have limited running capability.

It should be noted that the individual accommodations state specifically what their air-conditioning status is, ie. “air conditioning can be run for 8 hours a day” etc.

Photoshoots are extra cost

That doesn’t mean a few snaps for your personal Instagram page. It is specifically for commercial shoots. That includes sponsored posts (say endorsing products on location). It is best to contact the host prior to commercial shoots to discuss any additional rates per night.

Pet Friendly at a cost

There are a few of the Joshua Tree Airbnbs mentioned above that include a “pet friendly” label. Pet-friendly accommodations usually come at an extra cost (cleaning fee). Please contact the host prior to your stay about any pets you want to bring.

Parties or events? Contact the host prior to booking

Many of these stylish Joshua Tree Airbnbs are seemingly perfect for small events or parties. With beautiful details and stunning backdrops, it’s like some of these places were made for events. But, they’re not. While some places do allow organized events (with prior host consent), many do not so check the accommodation details.

Joshua Tree Things To Do

Apart from lounging in these amazing Airbnb pools, hot tubs, and sun chairs, there are some great things to do in the Joshua Tree area. Here is a list of a few recommendations for the area.

Check out the Joshua Tree National Park

You can’t go to the Joshua Tree desert without a visit to the National Park. Here are a couple of quick highlights for your vacation:

  • Entrance Fees
    • For vehicles is $30 (admission for passengers for 7 days)
    • For individuals $15 for 7 days
  • You can cover the National Park in half a day
    • If you have your own vehicle it is pretty easy to cover the park highlights in half a day
    • The nicest rock formations are around the Hidden Valley campground area
    • Check out the Cholla Cactus gardens (ideally, before the sun sets over the hills to get amazing lighting through the cactus fur
    • If you want to explore more you could spend days doing individual walking trails
  • There is nowhere to buy drinks. Be sure to have plenty of water and gas for your vehicle
    • You don’t want to get stuck in the middle of the park with no gas or water as phone signal there is non-existent and it can get really hot, really fast
  • Joshua Trees get their name from Mormon Pioneers
    • After the biblical stories of Joshua who raised his hands in prayer (kind of like the trees themselves)
  • You can see actual Joshua Trees outside of the national park
    • In some of the above mentioned Joshua Tree Airbnbs, there are actually Joshua Trees on the properties. If not they are a pretty common sight around the Yucca Valley

Go to the thrift stores

Between the town of Yucca and Joshua Tree there are some great thrift stores with a selection of desert inspired pieces. Here are a few places to check out:

  • The End in Yucca Valley
  • Funky and Darn Near New in Yucca Valley
  • Ricochet Vintage Wear on Twentynine Palms Highway has a great selection of cowboy boots

Cruise down Pioneer Towns walkway

This historic town was built in 1946 to look like the 1880s. It has been used as a film set for multiple Western movies and still has an operational hotel and restaurant (Pappy & Harriets). It makes for an interesting couple of hours and some great photo opps.

Check out the outdoor museum

Joshua Tree is well known for its quirkiness. The outdoor museum highlights this well, using local materials and some far-out imagination.

The Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum of Assemblage Art is open 7 days and free to enter.

Head into Palm Springs

Palm Springs is about a 50 minute drive from Joshua Tree. It is a time capsule of Art Deco and color. One of the best things to do in Palm Springs is to ride a bike through the Las Palmas area and soak in the historic neighborhood vibe. If you’ve got time, there are some amazing Airbnbs in Palm Springs to stay in.

Climb Salvation Mountain in Slab City

Don’t forget to check out this infamous “mountain” made from up-cycled materials and paint. It is a nice desert drive past the Sultan Sea if you’re feeling like an exploration day.
