Have you ever tried to make your own crackers? These simple homemade crackers are delicious and quick to make. They are perfect for an afternoon snack, or if you want to bring something homemade to a friend’s house.
Homemade crackers also come without all the nasties that packaged crackers contain to help preserve them on the shelves, and they are a great way to reduce your plastic use. Whether you want to be more sustainable in your home, or make some healthier alternatives to your packaged favourites, these homemade crackers are the recipe for you!
How to make Homemade Crackers
Making these crackers are quick and easy and require very few ingredients. Mix together 1.5 cups of plain flour and 1 teaspoon of salt in a bowl, then gradually add two tablespoons of olive oil (or coconut oil), as well as 1/2 a cup of water. Once your dough is formed, roll it out onto a floured workspace. Brush the dough with some oil and sprinkle the surface with your desired toppings (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, herbs etc).
Next, using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the crackers into your desired size. Transfer the crackers onto a baking tray (use a silicone baking mat or baking paper), and prick the crackers with a fork. Then bake the crackers for approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on desired crispness (we like the edges to be browned). Transfer the crackers onto a cooling rack or plate, let cool, then serve with your desired dip!
